SEM 52-A
is a German portable radio of low power with six channels. It was developed to replace the outdated PRC-6/6. Its strange looking headset makes it an almost hands free radio ( only the PTT must be pushed. ) Besides, all the surrounding noise can be heard. Though the headset was developed for the army, the soldiers never grew accustomed to it. Thus SEM52-A was replaced after a rather short period by SEM-52S.
(SEM-53 with digital display was developed but not accepted).
It can co-operate with: RT-68, RT-70, RT-110, PRC-6/6, PRC-10, FSE-38-58, SEM-25, SEM-35, SEM-52S, SEM 70, SEM 80, SEM 90.
A very detailed description of the SEM-52A can be found in
Alan Tasker's article

SEM-52 S
was the successor of the SEM-52 A in the German BW. It is a portable.
The battery description shows AA calls ore a special Lithium block, the battery compartment is similar to SEM52A. The radio in my museum has rechargeable batteries in a screwed compartment, not mentioned in the handbook.

SEM 52-SL
succeeds the SEM-52S, (issued in 1984). As modern radio it can transmit as well voice as data. Transmitting voice a built-in loudspeaker / microfone is used. ( as in SEM-52S ). An external microfone can be used.
To whisper the microfone sensitivity can be increased by 12 dB.
A lot of accessories can be got for the radio ( different antennas, computer for programming, car mounting, different antennas etc.), so the usage is very widespread.
Frequency range:
30 ... 87.975 MHz
Standard is 46 ... 66 MHz
64 ... 88 MHz may be ordered.
